Why are there all these models?
Isn't arithmetic just about numbers?
Isn't arithmetic just about numbers?
Good question! Models like ten frames and number lines help children make sense of numbers and procedures (like adding, subtracting, borrowing, carrying, or regrouping.) Models also can help children avoid developing ingrained errors. Not every child needs a model to make sense of math. But models can help even the best math students better understand the how and why of traditional procedures.

My son says that math is boring.
Any help with MathCoachInteractive?
Any help with MathCoachInteractive?
Ah, the “boring” word. When children say something is “boring” they usually mean something does not make sense. Sometimes they mean that the math is too easy. Our simple assessment system tailors instruction to each child. Engaging lessons at the just-right level, supportive feedback, and game-like practice will turn “boring” into “I get it!”
